CHOP w/o prednisone
Have you ever heard of CHOP chemotherapy without prednisone? A good
friend of mine is receiving chemo for the treatment of non-hodgkins
lymphoma. His oncologist started him out with CHOP therapy. For the
first two treatments he received the infusion of C,H, and O and was
given a prescription for the P (prednisone). For the next 4 treatments
the prenisone was left out (I believe unintentionally). For the 6th
treatment he received the prednisone again. Subsequently the CHOP
regimen was deemed as a failure and a new regimen of vp-16 was started.
When questioned his oncologist stated that she sometimes
preferred not to utilize predisone in CHOP. Is this standard practice?
What role does prednisone play in chemotherapy for lymphoma

-I had CHOP-Bleo. I always had prednisone except for one instance
when they definitely forgot it. When I called them about it, they
apologized, phoned in a prescription to my pharmacy and told me to
pick it up immediately. Not being a doctor, I can't answer your other questions. -Prednisone is an overused drug used mostly for palliative
reasons...its side effects are horrendous
