port installed for chemotherapy

port installed for chemotherapy I'm getting a port installed in my chest, that will go into a vein around the chest area. I don't know if it will go in a major vein or just a vein or into my heart. So, do you guys think it would be ok to cook up some morphine sulfate or some dilaudid and do a iv push into that port?

---------------------

-Based on your previous post ii is my erudite medical opinion that you attach a bag of IV'able prime prune juice to the port and locate yourself near appropriate facilities ready for E-Vac.

I'd also do some research on just what the fx are of mixing opioids and the chemo process - i reckon it's safe but you never know.

-Of course it's safe. Most cancer patients are on some form of painkiller, often before, during and after chemo treatments.

What a luxury to have that induction option. Reminds me of the days when I had the hardest time finding a running vein. Would poke myself full of holes before I finally hit. I recall one time just looking into the mirror as the rush kicked in, to see myself standing there naked with small trickles of blood flowing from a dozen needle stab-wounds. Looked like a still-photo from a horror-flick, or maybe a DARE poster-ad for abstinence

-Perfectly safe. I suggest running a little liquid Drano through first though, just to clean out any cholesterol. Or use a really long, flexible wire brush - make sure it goes all the way into your heart - and just "scrub for Sunday". In between doses, get a blower attachment on your airhose (get the pressure comin' through the hose, from the compressor, up to around 100 PSI) and pop the cap off that port, and give 'er two or three blasts of air through there to clear the pipe. Don't be afraid to really leeeeaaaaannnn on that blower trigger, 'ta get the air flowin. That friggin' port hose is as long as a mule's lip, from his ear down, so it'll take all the pressure that Emglo will dish out.
