Any info on new chemotherapy procedure

Any info on new chemotherapy procedure I would like any information regarding a recently televised news story on a new form of chemotherapy in which the drug is injected directly into the tumor along with another drug which the news reporter called a "super glue". Supposedly the combination of these two "explode" the tumor. A young lady with advanced liver cancer was featured in this story and the claim was made that she was in remission. A friend of mine was just diagnosed with esophageal cancer which we just found out has spread to his liver. At this point, doctors are talking about quality of life instead of any aggressive treatment. He is willing to try anything at this point, money is not necessarily an issue at this time.

---------------------

esophageal cancer of that type (>=3) requires surgery with radiation and chemotherapy afterwards.

I dont know much about liver cancer. But I do know that a large portion of the liver can be removed without effecting its function and that the liver has some regenerative ablitities.

in EC surgery requires that there is not cardivascular or intestinal problems and that the cancer has not spread to the throat or the stomach. two incisions are made (1) upper chest and (2) lower abdomenal. The cancereous esophagus is cut from the top and bottom and removed. A non-uclerated section(around 6" to 12") of the intestines is removed. The intestines is reattached. the sectioned intestines is attached to the lower part of the esophagus/splinter of the stomach and the upper part of the esophagus. The advantage of this procedure is that there is zero cellular rejection and the intestinal wall has similar properties of the esophagus (i.e. it is a muscular digestive organ that can push food down).

EC chemotherapy
===================== EC type iii survival rate is low, EC type III survival rates with only surgery is very low. You can increase survival rates chances by having chemotherapy sessions and selective radiation therapy afterward the surgery. Chemotherapy is more effective on cells with a short life span (like the cells that line the stomach) and fast growing cells (like cancer cells). in chemotherapy, make sure they give the anti-nausea drug (e.g.,zolfrin) several minutes (15-60mins) before giving the chemo drug - since anti-nausea drugs are only effective if they reach the brain before the chemo drug does. When more than one chemo drug is used it is call multi-modal chemotherapy. Chemotherapy is not recommend for people with auto immunity problems since it can lower your resistance to diseases.

EC radiation...
=============== Radiation scarring making it difficult to identify the tumors so radiation therapy is usually done after surgery. Over 4000 rads of radiation precludes surgery in that general area. Radiation does weaken the body's resistance to diseases (similar to chemotherapy) so medical supervision is required.

if EC type III/IV has spread to the stomach or throat then medical doctors may advise to treated only with radiation (pallitive treatment only); In this case, radiation treatment is over 4000 rad and the esophagus goes through a great amount of scarring. Scarring tissues doesnot have any dna instructions to grow back into the orginal esophagual cellular structure. because of that scarring tissue can block the esophagus - that is, the esophagus doesnot regenerate back into a tubular muscle but a one big solid massive muscle. So doctors may recommend installing a stent (a flexible metal tube) to keep the esophagus passage open.

need a Stents?
================ The stent must be put into the esophagus as early as possible before the scar tissue closes up the esophagus completely. Stents have complications - irritation to adjacent organs, chest pains (due to the pressure the stent place on the esophagus inner wall to stay in place), fungal/bacterial infections due to fungus and bacterial growth on the inner walls of the stent, food being caught in the inner wall of the stent (the stent is not a muscle but a flexible metal tube - that places pressure outwardly, a esophagus wall normally places pressure inwardly to push the food down to the stomach).

Herbal solution?
================== EC is very common in China. The chinese have found that drinking warm (not hot) Green tea every day helps prevent EC and is a helpful in treating EC. See the university of pennsylvania - Cancer center (Onolink) for details.

Clincal trials
================== Their are clinical trials for EC in the USA and in Europe.
