Modifying the side effects of chemotherapy

A friend has breast cancer, metastatic to ribs and spine. She is undergoing fractionated dose chemotherapy at Cancer Treatment Centers of America, and has gotten a lot of information on nutritional adjuvant treatment. She would also like to know if there are any herbs or other supplements she could take to help ameliorate the effects of the chemo. Can someone supply helpful information that I can pass along to her?

---------------------

-CTCA has a book that they use a good bit by Dr. Patrick Quillen, BEATING CANCER with NUTRITION. This has some greatsuggestions concerning supplements and herbs to use to help the the side effects of the chemotherapy. The book can be found in many of the major bookstores, too.

- I have a close relative in Europe suffering from side effects of 14 chemo treatments for lung cancer. I've heard about ESSIAC and Shark's Cartilage but have no idea where to obtain it. Could you please post or e-mail this info if you have it.

-One of the most damaging effects of chemotherapy is that it produces vast amounts of free radicals in the body which is very undesireable. There is a recently re-discovered free-radical scavenger that comes from the bark of the Maritime Pine Tree called Pycnogenol which is the Hercules of antioxidants. It would be very adviseable for your friend to back up her chemo treatments with Pycnogenol. It is a patented and trademarked product that comes from Kaire International in Colorado. May other companies have been coming out with priducts that they are calling Pycnogenol, but their products contain little or none of the pine bark. People who end up getting non-Kaire Pycnogenol end up missing the boat! You or she would become distributors for Kaire, (which is free to do) and then you order at the distributor prices over their 800 number. I will be happy to help you to sponsor in and to provide you with all of the backup and information that I can. It is truly a life saver. Another good backup would be the Ojibwa Indian herbal tea called ESSIAC. This is something that you prepare at home in your kitchen and builds the body's immune system and purifies the blood and cleanses the liver. Another good back up for chemo would be Cats Claw, Sharks' Cartilage, Grape seed extract (must be from red grapes and include the skin and seed in a cold extraction process -- Kaire has this in their 'ProVine'.) I wish your friend good luck in battling her cancer and would be happy to help either with the Kaire or with the ESSIAC tea.
