cisplatin (Platinol)?

Anyone have any patient self-care tips for dealing with side effects from cisplatin chemotherapy?

---------------------

-I'm currently on Cisplatin (high dose) and I've found that if you bloat yourself with liquids the day before treatments and three or four days following, the recovery is much quicker. Remember that the sooner you flush the chemicals out of your system the sooner you will begin to feel better. Many women in my group take juniper berry caplets to aid excretion and I intend to try this next time. Peppermint tea is known to aid nausea as is ginger tea I have found both helpful. Hang in there rmember that it's not forever!

-Before: DRINK....DRINK.....DRINK......DRINK......The more water the better. The day of chemo, bring bottled water and drink...drink.....drink......cannot emphasize the importance of this enough!!! Ask if you're getting Zofran through your IV before the chemo, and get a script for after. It only works for a few days. Once the nausea and vomiting start, it's kind of hard to get liquid down, at least it was for me, the only thing that helped was Lemon Ice, lots and lots of it
