Direct Chemotherapy infusion

Has anyone heard of the treatment for liver cancer called "Direct Chemotherapy infusion"? My mother has liver cancer, and I am trying to research this treatment. The only thing I know is that Sloan Kettering specializes in this procedure.

Also, does anyone know if Sloan Kettering provides any type of online access?

---------------------

-I believe you are referring to intra-arterial infusion...which is the surgical placement of a catheter into the artery leading to the organ
(the liver, in this case). Intra-arterial chemo permits a direct infusion of the chemo to the affected organ. The organ gets the full, undiluted dose...and then the chemo goes to the rest of the body.

When the patient receives chemo via peripheral IV, the chemo is diluted across the entire blood volume ...which is exactly what you want when you are treating a widely disperse condition. However, the tolerances of different tissues to chemo is different...and the delivered chemo dose must take into account the lowest tolerance of the vital organs. If you could give a localized, high dose...and then let it goe into the body...this appears to have some benefits...

I believe someone has a World-Wide-Web site. It is very rudimentary...when I looked at it last week (no, I don't recall the URL offhand). I'm sure it will develop over time...
