IS MARIJUANA CHEMOTHERAPY USEFUL TO REDUCE NAUSEA AND VOMITING?

My grand mother is undergoing a chemotherapy and has had violenjt nauseas and vomiting annd which were only slightly induced by the injections of Plitikan (don't know if its avalaible outside France). She used to smoke some pot till a few years ago and wanted me to get her some as she had heard it could help her fight nausea. Could someone help me before I roll her a joint?

---------------------

- Some people's nausea is helped by marijuana - but it is by no means the state-of-the-art treatment. If your mother did indeed find marijuana helpful there are anti-emetics which are based on canibinoid derivatives and these might be a more convenient way to obtain the drug.

The absolute best way to control nausea is with a drug manufactured by Glaxo called Ondansedron (brand name Zofran). It is available by pill or injection (8mg) and it WILL stop her nausea that develops right after receiving chemotherapy. It is very expensive, so some hospitals will try to not dispense it. You may have to ask or
*insist* on it.

-I was on MARINOL 10mg. 4xdaily I will have to say that this is the only thing that helped me get through the nausea and vomitimg. I was one of the MANY that other intervention medication did not help. At first when I asked my Doctor he suggested that I get something on the street. This thought scared me to death as I could picture myself in jail the first time I tried it. I did talk my doctor into prescribing for me and then I encountered a larger problem.. not everyone carries it nor would they order it for me. Save yourself a lot of trouble by:

1. Call around to drugstores to see if they carry it in stock in the MG. that you require.

2. Save yourself additional grief(it is very expensive) find a druggist that will bill your insurance company direct. that way you will not be out of pocket.

3. Try to find a drugstore that will diliver to your door because sometimes it is impossible to find someone to go for you or the individual is unable to drive because of the treatment.

4. If you drive ...as with any medications.. DO NOT TAKE MARINOL and try to drive as your functions and judgement are impaired.

5. Remember on the first prescription to only get a 3-4 day supply.. this medication works fast and well BUT... it does NOT work for everyone. So try it first.
