Chemotherapy Hair Loss Timing

My wife's first chemotherapy is tomorrow. She has decided to crop her hair prior to its falling out on its own and thinks she should do so fairly early this week. Would appreciate hearing from those who have experienced this -- how far into the treatments did hair loss occur? What we've read about it leaves it pretty vague on this point.

---------------------

-I've recently received my first chemo treatment, 3/13/00. To date I still have a head of hair, but was told by the nurses that I'll most likely start losing it prior to the second treatment which will be be on
4/3. I, too, cut my hair very short after many years of having long hair. I figured that if I'm going to lose it, it'll be on my terms for a little while at least. I've not regretted the decision to do so. I would recommend that the both of you spend a day together and shop for a wig and several hats. It'll be fun for her to try the different styles and colors. Not all women lose their hair from what I've observed. I think it depends on the drugs being used. Would you happen to know what drugs your wife will be receiving. Apparently, adriamycin is the culprit for hair loss.

-My first treatment with adriamycin was Oct 14. 10 days later I started losing my hair. 2 days after that I was completely bald. I had 4 CA treatments then 4 Taxol. My last Taxol was on March 9 and I noticed this weekend that I am getting a little bit of stubble on the top of my head. I also don't have any eybrows or eye lashes but they did not fall out completely until right before my last Taxol treatment.

-I had adryamicin/cytoxin chemo. Approx. two weeks after my first treatment, it started coming out in HUGE clumps. After it started coming out I cut it myself as short as I coul get it. I didn't go totally bald but the hair I had left (thin layer of hair) looked like a very bad home perm. Very fried-frizzy looking. I wore caps/hats all the time. One month after my chemo treatments, I totally shaved my head . I hoped by then chemo would be out of my system and I could start from new. Last chemo--April 99 last rad treat--June 99 I now have lots of hair--it's now a darker blonde than before. When it first started coming in had lots of wave-curl to it. My hair was naturally straight. People who didn't know what I went throught think I just got a "short haircut". Once it started growing, it came in pretty fast.
