Chemotherapy for peritoneal ovarian cancer

A family member is battling this ovarian cancer. Supposedly it is a curable type cancer but she is having a lot of problem with adhesions causing blockages in her lower intestines due to some sticky fluid like cancer in her abdomen area. I was wondering what the current chemotherapy is for this problem. Is it common to continue to do surgeries, thereby causing more adhesions. Does a colonostomy work or will they just remove the colon altogether?

---------------------

-Peritoneal cancer is generally a sign of advanced cancer. (in this case secondary to the ovarian cancer she has/had).Yes, adhesions tend to come back. She's probably at risk of bowel obstruction which in of itself can be life-threatening.

There's 3 types of Ovaian Cancer. http://www.cancer.gov/cancerinfo/types/ovarian Perhaps your best answers will come from her treating physicians.

Much like chemo or radiation, the questions remain the same about surgery. Will it cure? Will it extend life and will it make quality of life better? These are quetions she needs to sort out with her doctors.

-There's also so much information missing, like has she had a recent hysterectomy. Complications are mentioned here http://www.ovariancanada.org/treating/after/comp.php
(which could account for the fluids, but your mention of ascites sounds more on target, could be wrong though).
