Chemotherapy shot for Multiple Sclerosis.

Have not been here in over a year . Has any information come out on chemotherapy for multiple sclerosis. Has anyone had this shot for M.S.? Has it helped any?

---------------------

-What kind of Chemo? There are lots. There's novantrone (mitoxantrone), cytoxan (cyclophosphamide) and Campath-1H (alemtuzumab) and maybe others. I can't speak for the others, but from my own experience Campath-1H seems to be working okay with few serious side effects so far.

-I happened to see a neurologist who specializes in M.S. only about 6 mos. ago for a second opinion. I have had for M.S. 33 years. I have been treated with chemo over the past 3 years for breast cancer. I wanted him to re-read MRI scans to insure that what was going on was M.S.-related and not due to the cancer. He told me that my scans had shown improvement and thinks that the chemotherapy may have arrested, if not cured, the M.S. I have also been on BetaSeron for about 9 years. I started the Betaseron at a time when my M.S. had gone from relapsing-remitting to relapsing-progressive.

- My husband just signed me up to the websites so I don't know what was said, but I am starting the Chemo drug "Novantrone" next week and it's a 15 minute IV done evry 3 months for 2 1/2 to 3 years.
