HELP: CHEMOTHERAPY FOR FRIEND WITH BLADDER CANCER

Does anyone have any suggestions for my 71-yr-old friend with bladder cancer? MD's (of course) want to cut out bladder. I think it's stupid. Any other suggestions? How's CHEMOTHERAPY useful for BLADDER CANCER?

---------------------

-Combined modality therapy (chemotherapy plus radiation) is probably equal in efficacy and spares the bladder in many (but not all cases) . Some references

Sequential Transurethral Surgery, Multiple Drug Chemotherapy and Radiation Therapy for Invasive Bladder Carcinoma: Initial Report.

-Chemotherapy for bladder cancer can be administered through a vein or into the bladder. It is usually given by vein to treat patients with stage IV bladder cancer. Chemotherapy also may be given to patients with stage III cancer after surgery in an attempt to prevent the tumor from returning. (This is called adjuvant chemotherapy.)
