Is canine chemotherapy worth it?

My 6 1/2-year old boxer has recently been diagnosed with lymphatic cancer. I have the option of beginning chemotherapy but am concerned about the side effects. I would be very interested in hearing about other peoples' experiences with canine chemotherapy, particularly in relation to lymphatic cancer. Specifically, I want to know: Is chemotherapy worth it? What quality of life does the dog have?

---------------------

-My first Irish Setter was diagnosed with lymphosarcoma at age 11. I opted to try chemotherapy, and she lived another 6 months. The chemo sessions were every 3 weeks, and she would be a little under the weather for 2-3 days about a day or so after each one. Dogs seem to tolerate chemo better than humans. She did not have problems with vomiting, etc. The main thing was that she acted like an old dog, which she hadn't before, but that was probably due as much to the disease as the treatment. I went into it knowing that it probably wasn't curative, but would possibly buy us some quality time together. It did. I think it was easier when the time came, having had awhile to come to grips with it. Galadriel came out of remission, and we admitted her to the hospital to try a "rescue" protocol. The next morning, her Dr. called to say she had deteriorated overnight. I told him to bag the treatment, and he agreed that was the right move. We brought her home (she hated vets, and I don't think she ever fully forgave me for becoming one
), because I had promised her she wouldn't have to die in the hospital, and I put her to sleep under her favorite tree. I would go this route again. It might not be right for everyone, but it worked for us.
